Prime Minister Milojko Spajić stated that Montenegro must focus on intensive development and attract leading global investors to the nation.

During his visit to the municipality of Ulcinj, he met with Mayor Gencij Nimanbegu and officials from the Municipal Assembly.

The meeting, as reported by the Government, revolved around the future development plans for Ulcinj, investment interests, and the beach lease tender.

“We must make wise choices. In the past, this has not always been the case. I conveyed to Ulcinj’s residents a message from top global investors, Emmar and Eagle Hills, expressing interest in sharing their vision for the development of Velika Plaza and a tourism initiative that could become a leading project in Europe,” Spajić noted.

He mentioned that the Government intends to renew the Economic Cooperation Agreement with the United Arab Emirates, which lapsed in 2022, a task that prior governments neglected. This renewed agreement is envisioned as a foundation for significant development projects in both northern and southern Montenegro.

“We talked with representatives of the Ulcinj Municipal Assembly about local community interests and the state of Montenegro. I also transmitted a message from Emirati investor Mohamed Alabar regarding an upcoming project that will be explored further. We addressed various concerns and discussions that arise with every grand vision. Every ambitious project demands extensive effort, and it’s essential that we approach it carefully and in partnership with local authorities,” Spajić added.

According to the announcement, at Spajić’s initiative, the investor has opted to return the beaches acquired in the tender to local entrepreneurs at the previously bid price.

Mayor Gencij Nimanbegu emphasized that the potential project is a significant and pressing matter for the municipality.

“This is an issue that warrants discussion and consideration of various arguments. I want the Prime Minister to relay to all investors he engages with that they are welcomed here and that their interests align with those of the local community. For years, we’ve been aware of the government’s position, and since the Prime Minister’s arrival here, he has demonstrated a commitment to doing things differently,” Nimanbegu said. The Government stated.

Representatives from political parties in the Ulcinj Municipal Council expressed their gratitude to Spajić for his transparency and willingness to collaboratively explore large development endeavors while considering the local community’s unique circumstances.
