The Election Commission in Nikšić Rejects Jelena Marković’s List.
The Municipal Election Commission (MEC) has rejected the electoral list titled “For a Libertarian Nikšić of Equal Opportunities,” spearheaded by Jelena Marković.
According to MEC President Rade Perišić in an interview with “Vijesti,” the rejection was due to the failure to rectify all noted irregularities highlighted by the Municipal Election Commission.
“Some of the irregularities have been addressed; however, the fundamental issue remains that she did not accumulate a sufficient number of signatures. She retains the right to appeal this decision to the State Election Commission,” Perišić informed “Vijesti.”
Upon submission, the OIK identified several irregularities, including the absence of the electoral list name on none of the support signature forms, leading to ambiguity regarding the intended beneficiaries of the support signatures. Out of 598 collected support signatures, 330 were deemed invalid. Additionally, during the signature verification process, the OIK discovered that “at least 77 individuals had signed their names two or more times on the submitted forms.”
The list was required to be endorsed by at least 459 voters, indicating a shortfall of at least 191 valid support signatures. Furthermore, documents proving voting rights and residence for each candidate were not provided, nor was there written consent from the list holder, and the electoral list for councilor elections did not conform to the prescribed format.
Marković submitted the list containing the names of 15 councilor candidates on the final day, March 18th, and two days later, the Municipal Election Commission returned the list due to the identified irregularities, giving her the opportunity to amend them within a 48-hour timeframe.
Following the list’s rejection, Jelena Marković organized a press conference for this morning.
