Is it time to end the Adriatic’s nine-year reign in the Montenegrin water polo championship?
Never has it seemed more achievable, as Primorac is closer than ever to unseating its main rival. Kotor currently holds a 2:0 lead in the final series, with the first match point for the title set to take place tonight at 19:00 at Škver. This is just the first of three potential matches…
In the opening game of the finals, Vjekoslav Pasković’s squad stole the home advantage from Novljani with a 9:6 victory. They followed that up with a 15:13 win at home, inching closer to clinching their third Montenegrin championship title, previously won in 2007 and 2008.
In the second match, Jadran made a comeback despite trailing by three goals, even taking the lead a minute and a half before the end. However, goalkeeper Aleksandro Kralj ensured a draw by scoring with just 10 seconds left, leading Primorje into a penalty shootout where he saved two penalties, becoming the undeniable hero of his team.
– We are brimming with confidence and want to settle the title in the third game without any calculations – stated Nikola Marković, one of the more seasoned players in the Kotor lineup.
– It’s never easy to beat Škver; we’ve done it once before, and our dramatic victory in Kotor is behind us. Winning is important; we lead 2:0 and have the chance to finish an outstanding season in which we’ve triumphed in 17 out of 18 games in the A1 regional league – Marković added.
Jadran cannot afford to wait – to extend the series, they must overcome a formidable opponent.
– We refuse to surrender, even though we know we face a very tough challenge. Primorac is an excellent team that plays at a high rhythm and effectively exploits one-on-one advantages. We’ve improved our gameplay from the previous matches and now need to secure a win if we wish to remain in contention for the title – highlighted Petar Radanović, the coach of the current champions.
