“We Unraveled the World Cup: Fueled by Fan Passion and Community Respect as We Look Ahead to the Next Major Challenge”
Following two European championships and a world championship, the “lions” will not be competing in the major tournament this coming January…
The Montenegrin handball team fell short of qualifying for the World Championship after 120 minutes of playoff struggle, failing to demonstrate they were superior to Italy—a national team that hasn’t been in the spotlight since 1998.
“We didn’t earn our place at the World Cup, and we won’t go,” stated goalkeeper Nebojša Simić, reflecting his usual realism and honesty.
Despite the disappointment this time around, the “lions” received applause from the sold-out “Morača” arena in the end.
“Maybe we didn’t even deserve the audience’s cheers for 60 minutes, nor the songs sung with us after the loss, but we experienced it,” Simić reflected on Instagram.
One of the most seasoned and talented players in the Montenegrin national team believes that the future holds promise…
“I hope we will be uplifted by that energy and the respect of our people to return to our former glory and secure a spot in the next championship,” the Montenegrin goalkeeper emphasized as he concluded.
“Representing our country has always been, and will always be, a tremendous honor for every true athlete.”
