Last week, it was revealed that Domantas Sabonis will not be participating in EuroBasket. However, it was announced last night that another NBA standout, Jonas Valanciunas, will join Lithuania’s roster for the continental event.
This news was confirmed by Lithuania’s coach Rimas Kurtinaitis. Valanciunas, similar to Sabonis, had a discussion with the national team manager, Linas Kleiza, and assured him of his participation in the tournament.
“Jonas will be joining us. He is eager to represent the national team,” Kurtinaitis commented.
Valanciunas first competed in EuroBasket with the senior team in 2011 in Lithuania. This upcoming event will mark his sixth European Championship, where he previously earned silver medals in 2013 and 2015.
This season, the center has been averaging 8.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists for the Sacramento Kings.
Lithuania is placed in Group B at EuroBasket, alongside teams from Montenegro, Germany, Finland, Sweden, and Great Britain.
