The State Prosecutor’s Office is firmly dedicated to adhering to the standards set by the European Court of Human Rights. This is being accomplished through the execution of the Court’s previous decisions related to the actions of the State Prosecutor and by establishing clear procedures and standards for handling future cases, according to the Supreme State Prosecutor (SSP) Milorad Marković.

Marković revealed that he had discussions with the president and vice-president of the European Court in Strasbourg, Marko Bošnjak and Ivana Jelić, as reported by the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office.

During the meeting held in Podgorica, Marković emphasized, “The State Prosecutor’s Office of Montenegro is unwavering in its commitment to actively enforce the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights.”

According to the announcement by VDT, Bošnjak praised the Supreme State Prosecutor’s commitment to enhancing the standards of state prosecutors’ offices regarding the effectiveness of investigations, as well as the respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms through binding guidelines that align with the practices of the European Court of Human Rights. He expressed encouragement regarding the proactivity of the VDT.

Marković also informed his counterparts about the establishment of a Working Team within the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office, which will monitor the practices of the European Court of Human Rights and the European Court of Justice.

This initiative aims to familiarize all state prosecutors with the practices of the European Court in Strasbourg, ensuring that they apply the defined standards in their daily activities, as stated by the State Prosecutor’s Office.

The meeting with the President and Vice-President of the European Court of Human Rights also included the Deputy Supreme State Prosecutor Jelena Đaletić and Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novović, according to the VDT.
