The parliamentary group of the Europe Now Movement announced today its commitment to support the establishment of a Committee of Inquiry focused on investigating cigarette smuggling.
They expressed their intent to actively engage in the committee’s work and to demand accountability from all parties implicated in these illegal activities.
“Combating organized crime and corruption, particularly concerning cigarette smuggling, is crucial in establishing a rule of law and a European Montenegro. We believe that creating this committee is a significant step toward clarifying the factors that have fostered years of illicit tobacco trade, which has inflicted substantial damage to the state budget and tarnished our country’s international reputation,” the statement reads.
During a meeting of the parliamentary majority representatives, an agreement was made to form an Inquiry Committee tasked with gathering information and facts regarding the actions of state bodies and other entities related to cigarette smuggling in Montenegro, Boris Bogdanović, head of the MPs’ Club and Secretary General of the Democrats, shared earlier today.
