The tangible outcomes of the reform initiatives on the journey to European Union (EU) membership serve as a compelling invitation for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to increase its investments in Montenegro, stated EBRD Vice President Matteo Patrone.
Prime Minister Milojko Spajić held a meeting with Patrone in Podgorica.
According to Spajić’s office, discussions primarily revolved around the execution of significant projects.
The EBRD expressed its strong willingness to support the Government’s plans to enhance transport connectivity, develop sectors such as energy and tourism, and assist in improving the small and medium-sized enterprises sector.
Patrone highlighted that the noticeable effects of the reform efforts towards EU integration serve as a robust incentive for the EBRD to further invest in Montenegro.
Spajić remarked that the completion of the second section of the highway will lead to more equitable development and rejuvenate the northeast region of the country.
Patrone acknowledged the strategic significance of connecting the northeast with other regions of Montenegro.
“This is why we are backing you in these initiatives, and you can count on us for all upcoming transport projects,” Patrone stated.
Spajić noted that enhanced transport links will also boost the economy alongside the railway reconstruction, the development of the Port of Bar, and the increase in airport capacity.
“He also shared potential collaboration opportunities in energy, tourism, and agriculture, which presents a significant growth opportunity for small and medium-sized enterprises, particularly in the northern regions,” the announcement stated.
It was concluded that aiding small and medium-sized businesses has become a primary focus for the EBRD in this context.
