The Tenants’ Association of Montenegro is reaching out to all residents in the Capital City with lease agreements, urging them to submit the required documentation for the upcoming competition to distribute tenant subsidies.
“There is a potential for the number of beneficiaries receiving subsidies to increase through budget rebalancing, allowing for all eligible candidates to be included,” the statement indicated.
During a meeting with officials from the Capital City, the Association noted an expected increase in tenant applications this year compared to past years.
“We have also requested to participate in the commission responsible for fund distribution to ensure transparency and equitable subsidy allocation, alongside an initiative to raise the subsidy amounts. We anticipate the authorities will take these requests into account for the benefit of all tenants,” the statement highlighted.
They emphasized that this year’s subsidy recipients are limited to 125 tenant families.
“Despite submitting a proposal for a minimum allocation of one million euros from the overall budget of the Capital City, which totals 153 million euros, our amendment was not received positively and was ultimately denied,” the statement added.
The Association has informed tenants that those granted subsidies of 100 euros per month will receive their funding retroactively for this year due to delays in announcing the competition. This might be the only benefit arising from the postponed decision regarding distribution.
“We expect the Capital City’s Secretariat for Social Welfare to finally issue a statement, as they have consistently evaded our queries and responded only through the media. We interpret this as an attempt to undermine the resolve and efforts of the Tenants’ Association of Montenegro,” the Association asserted.
According to their assertion, these positions are temporary, while the Association plans to remain active for an extended period.
“We have observed many changes from behind the scenes, yet we are still present and intend to be for a long time,” the statement concluded.
If irregularities are found in the subsidy distribution process or if applications are unjustly denied despite meeting all necessary criteria, the Tenants’ Association of Montenegro will seek a ruling from the Administrative Court to annul any unfair decisions if needed.
“We encourage all tenants to actively engage, file complaints, and keep abreast of developments in this matter. The Association will continue its fight for tenant rights and advocate for increased support from relevant institutions,” the statement concludes.
