Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Bečić welcomed a delegation from the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV), currently on an official visit to Montenegro. The delegation, led by CEV President Roko Sikirić, included CEV Vice President Ivan Knežević, the President of the Croatian Volleyball Federation Frane Žanić, as well as the hosts: the President and Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro, Nikola Kažić and Ivan Bošković.

Bečić and the CEV representatives congratulated the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro, under President Kažić’s leadership, for the successful organization of the Montenegrin Cup finals across both competitions. The significance of this event is highlighted by the presence of key figures from European volleyball, affirming the rising profile of Montenegrin volleyball internationally.

Bečić remarked that sports exemplify one of the most vital links of cooperation and friendship in the Western Balkans. He notably acknowledged the election of regional representatives to lead the European Volleyball Confederation – with President Sikirić from Croatia and First Vice President Knežević from Serbia – emphasizing that their collaboration showcases that unity and partnership lead to success and a shared future.

“It’s also heartening to witness the national volleyball federations from our nations working together with such sincerity, camaraderie, and teamwork. Therefore, I wholeheartedly endorse the proposal for Montenegro, Serbia, and Croatia to jointly bid for hosting the European Volleyball Championship in 2028, which I am confident will receive unwavering support from the Government of Montenegro. This would mark a historic milestone and a pinnacle achievement of the extraordinary regional volleyball cooperation we are observing, as well as serve as a blueprint for other areas in our countries to follow. Our Government will continue to offer unwavering support to the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro, as their strategic approach, commitment, and enthusiasm for promoting and developing volleyball among younger generations deserves utmost respect and encouragement,” stated Bečić.

CEV President Roko Sikirić commended Montenegro for its advancements in volleyball, noting that despite being one of the newest members of the CEV, the country’s commitment to the sport has yielded impressive results in promoting volleyball and enhancing sports infrastructure.

“The backing of the state leadership is vital for sports development. Your five-hour attendance on Sunday evening at the finals of both competitions is a testament to that commitment, for which the European Volleyball Confederation extends its heartfelt gratitude. Be proud of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro, which possesses a clear vision for the growth of volleyball in the country; on this journey, you can rely on our complete support and encouragement,” said Sikirić.
