Today, the semi-final matches of the final tournament for the Montenegro Handball Cup will take place at “Bemax Arena” in Podgorica.
At 16:30, Rudar will face Budva Riviera, while Lovcen will challenge Budućnost at 19:00. Budva Riviera is the current title holder.
“I am confident that the tournament will proceed with fair play. Although we have defeated them twice before, we cannot afford to relax; the Cup is always full of surprises. We respect our opponents, who are young and talented, but I believe our experience will secure us the title. If we meet Lovcen in the finals, the game will hinge on minor details,” said Budvanska’s director, Srđan Ćulafić, during a press conference.
Budva is favored against Rudar, who seeks revenge for last year’s final loss.
“Last year, we faced them in the finals, and this time we meet in the semifinals. While they are considered favorites, we are not backing down. Our goal is to avenge last year’s defeat. They are strong, experienced, and well-coached. We are eager to showcase our strength and will give it our all,” stated Rudar’s director, Igor Mašković.
The second semi-final involves Lovćen and Budućnost, with Cetinje aiming for a double crown.
“Playing for a big club has its pressures. Our target is to secure a double crown, even though Budva is seen as the favorite. We are preparing for the semi-finals against a team that blends youth and experience, but we are ready. We’ve played in Podgorica before, and the venue is familiar to us, especially after speaking with our national team members who faced Italy. Despite their hard loss, they’re professionals, and it won’t impact their performance,” said Lovćen coach Filip Popović.
Budućnost is the youngest team in the finals of the tournament.
“This is a chance for us to showcase the potential of Montenegrin club handball. Being the youngest team puts us at a slight disadvantage, but it’s crucial for us to compete and make our presence felt. We have aspirations, and despite the odds, we will strive to challenge Lovćen as much as we can. We have our strategies,” emphasized Budućnost coach Draško Mrvaljević.
The league director, Milorad Vujošević, assured that the organization will meet high standards.
“We have worked hard to ensure the organization is at a high level, aiming for a European standard, from the playing surface to the LED advertising. We also prioritize security to prevent any incidents, unlike the occurrences we’ve seen in our arenas lately. May handball prevail,” Vujošević stated.
The final is set for tomorrow at 18:15. Prior to that, Budućnost Bemax will face Rudar in the handball final at 16:00.
