Prioritizing the Valorization of Natural Resources

The valorization of natural resources should be a key focus of an accountable economic policy, stated Admir Šahmanović, the Minister of Mining, Oil and Gas, as well as the Coordinator at the Ministry of Energy. During his working visit to the Municipality of Berane, he engaged in discussions with the local President, Đolo Lutovac, regarding development plans and projects led by the local government. “This visit marks the first official engagement by a government representative following the establishment of Berane’s new local government, which has been deemed to enhance institutional collaboration between local and state administrations,” the statement added.

Lutovac highlighted the significance of this visit concerning forthcoming investment endeavors.

“Šahmanović’s visit is the inaugural appearance by a government official since the new local government was formed, serving as a crucial signal for us and a further encouragement to explore the development and investment opportunities within the Municipality of Berane. The local administration stands ready to fully support all initiatives aimed at unlocking new economic prospects,” Lutovac remarked.

The discussion primarily centered on the potential revival of the brown coal mine, which has been inactive for several years despite having ample reserves of this energy source, as well as attracting the interest of investors.

Nevertheless, no tangible progress has been made toward the execution of this initiative up to now.

At the invitation of Šahmanović, the owner of the brown coal mine was present during the meeting to evaluate the current situation and business plans related to the mine.

Šahmanović emphasized that a responsible government needs to manage its resources effectively.

“It is our responsibility to conduct a comprehensive review of the current state, examine all possibilities, and collaborate with the local government to develop a roadmap for the forthcoming steps, aiming to create favorable conditions for the relaunch of this vital economic entity. The Ministry will actively participate throughout all stages of this process,” he added.

By the end of the meeting, it was agreed that local government services alongside the relevant ministry would enhance their cooperation in the near future to facilitate the concrete implementation of planned activities, particularly within the mining and energy sectors.
