Following a lackluster performance and a decisive loss, the Montenegro water polo team secured a win against the United States in their second test match during the San Diego training camp.
The “Sharks” triumphed after a thrilling five-set match, finishing 20:19 (3:4, 3:2, 5:2, 3:6, 6:5).
The game saw both teams experience scoring streaks, with the Americans initially leading 4:1. However, Vladimir Gojković’s team responded with a comeback, taking the lead at 6:4 thanks to a goal from Konstantin Averka.
At one point, Dejan Udovicic’s squad managed to equalize at 6:6 after almost a 10-minute drought, but Montenegro surged ahead again to 10:7 with another series of goals, reaching 13:11 before the match concluded in a penalty shootout.
During the penalty shootout, our goalkeeper Dejan Lazović stood out with four crucial saves, making it clear who would come out on top in this contest.
Before the penalties, the standout player for Vladimir Gojković’s side was Vlado Popadić, who netted three goals, while Andrija Korać, Dušan Matković, Konstantin Averka, and Marko Mršić each contributed with two goals. Bogdan Đurđić, Stefan Vidović, and Jovan Vujović added one goal each.
The Sharks played without several key players, including Đur and Vasilij Radović, Martin Gardašević, Vladan Spaić, and captain Petar Tešanović.
Montenegro is currently preparing for the Olympic Games in the USA, having lost to the same opponent just two days earlier with a score of 16:11.
