The Budućnost Voli basketball team is gearing up for another away game in the 25th round of the AdmiralBet ABA League, this time facing Cibona in Zagreb tomorrow (21). The “blues” are considered strong favorites in this matchup, aiming to maintain their chase for first place alongside Partizan with another victory.
The “Blues” hold a formidable 13-game winning streak against Cibona, with their last loss dating back to December 16, 2018 (83:77). While Budućnost is favored to win, coach Andrej Žakelj urges a cautious approach.
“Cibona can pose challenges if we allow them to dictate the pace. They have strong offensive capabilities and are well-experienced, as Igokea found out. They played vigorously against Igokea, displaying a lot of energy and shooting prowess. Their tall players can stretch the court. If we are not adequately prepared, we may encounter difficulties. We need focus, aggression, and effective communication,” articulated the head coach of the Montenegrin champions, Andrej Žakelj.
Cibona currently stands at 4-20 in the ABA League, competing with Krk to evade the playoffs, and recently secured a victory over Dinamo (98:82) in the Croatian championship by achieving an impressive 29:0 run.
“All teams will be eager to challenge and demonstrate their capabilities against us, as we are at the top and must maintain our position. Cibona exhibits excellent ball movement. They properly space the floor, and all five players can shoot. Their guards frequently attack the rim, so we must approach the game with the right defensive intensity,” expressed Budućnost player Jogi Ferel in the match preview.
