The SC Derby basketball team displayed exceptional shooting skills in their last match of the AdmiralBet ABA League against Split. They must replicate this performance tomorrow (17) at home to secure a victory against Igokea in the 25th round of the regional competition.
The “Students” are not concerned about relegation, standing safely away from the danger zone. Meanwhile, Spartak and Zadar, both vying for playoff spots, are three wins ahead, making playoffs aspirations quite distant currently.
In the previous game against Split, Petar Mijović’s squad hit a remarkable 20 three-pointers, matching the record set by Crvena zvezda, who achieved the same feat against FMP five years ago. The all-time record is held by Cedevita, who made an astonishing 23 three-pointers in a match against Zagreb back in 2010, prior to the merger with Olimpija Ljubljana.
“The standings and our win count demonstrate Igokea’s quality. Their style of play is competitive and experienced. This match will be a challenge, particularly physically, as we need to match Igokea’s strong, contact-heavy gameplay. We must excel in fundamentals like rebounding and transition defense, particularly against Jones and Carter. Simanić is in good form, and Milosavljević brings invaluable experience,” stated SC Derbi coach Petar Mijović in his match preview.
Igokea aims for a better playoff position with a current record of 16 wins and 8 losses.
“Igokea has a clearly defined style of play with well-established roles. To be competitive and have a chance to win, we will need to perform exceptionally well. We’re in a good rhythm in both training and games. After ensuring our survival, we’ve been approaching games with less pressure, and it shows,” Mijović elaborated.
A significant challenge lies ahead for his team.
“As previously mentioned, they are a formidable opponent with an excellent coach. We have a serious task in front of us, but I’m hopeful we can rise to the occasion and contend for the victory,” Mijović added.
SC Derbi has recorded two wins in a row, with their form improving prior to their match against Split.
“After two consecutive victories, we face a tough match against a seasoned and demanding opponent. This game at home is an excellent opportunity, and we must exert serious effort on both ends of the court to achieve victory. Winning would greatly benefit us in our playoff pursuit and help maintain our winning streak,” said SC Derby player Andrija Grbović.
