60 Drivers Taken into Custody Over the Weekend

During the weekend, police arrested 60 drivers for operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other psychoactive substances, as well as for committing other serious traffic offenses, according to the Police Directorate’s report.

From Friday through Sunday, there were 34 recorded traffic accidents on Montenegrin roads, resulting in one fatality, four severe injuries, and ten minor injuries.

Throughout this period, law enforcement filed 205 misdemeanor reports, issued 1,274 misdemeanor warrants, temporarily confiscated 14 sets of license plates, and removed an equal number of vehicles from circulation.

“A total of 60 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other psychoactive substances, along with other serious infractions,” the police reported.

The report indicated that 26 individuals were apprehended for exceeding the legal alcohol limit, ten for drug impairment or psychoactive substance influence, and 24 for other significant violations of the Road Traffic Safety Act.

In terms of arrests by location, 36 drivers were detained in Podgorica, nine in Bar, and six in Bijelo Polje.

The authorities announced that the Order mandating the use of winter tires on specified roads remains in effect until April 1st.

“In light of this, traffic police will increase inspections of road users in the upcoming weeks,” the statement added.

The Police Directorate urged all motorists to prioritize their safety and the safety of others by driving patiently, responsibly, and cautiously, and by being mindful of road conditions.
