The top European volleyball competition in 2028 may take place in Montenegro, as our nation has joined forces with Serbia, Croatia, and Hungary to bid for hosting the European Championship in three years.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Sports and Youth, Dragoslav Šćekić, alongside Zoran Gajić, a renowned volleyball coach and Minister of Sports of Serbia, during a meeting at Villa Gorica.
“The exciting news is that through our combined efforts, we have secured a strong position in the European Volleyball Confederation, and we are collaborating to host the 2028 European Championship. I am hopeful that together we will create a memorable and historic event,” stated Gajić.
The Ministry of Sports and Youth shares this optimistic outlook for our candidacy.
“I am confident that, given our resources and potential, we will successfully host this event, which would greatly benefit our sport and the nation, as well as enhance the promotion of our tourism sector.”
Additionally, the Ministry of Sports and Youth highlighted that one of the main topics discussed was the proposal to establish the Institute of Sports Medicine in Montenegro.
“Minister Gajić expressed Serbia’s complete support for this initiative and showed readiness to collaborate on its implementation by sharing insights and providing expert assistance,” added the government department.
