Retired professor Novo Vuković has announced that if Jasminka Međedović, the director of the Bijelo Polje “Miloje Dobrašinović” Gymnasium, is not replaced by Monday, several professors will begin a hunger strike.
“Should the Ministry of Education fail to respond to our request by Monday, we will call for the resignation of Minister Anđela Jakšić Stojanović,” Vuković stated.
Students who have been protesting for several days urged fellow students and teachers from all schools in the municipality to join them today at 12:30 p.m. in their effort to reclaim the dignity of the Gymnasium.
Student Lazar Lopušina expressed gratitude to the teachers who have supported the students throughout this ordeal.
“The situation we all find ourselves in reflects the violence that has emerged in the classroom and been highlighted in the media. It’s distressing to witness, let alone experience personally. The events of that day ignited feelings that have been simmering for quite some time. We feel belittled as students because the principal engaged through the media instead of directly addressing us, a sentiment that was echoed during yesterday’s protest. Over the past days, we have conveyed messages of peace, love, and unity, and teachers conducted lessons with us focused on resilience and the freedom of thought. Today, we present ourselves as the voice of students advocating for change in the education system. Our demands are straightforward and just – we seek responsible leadership that will ensure a brighter future for us and restore the tarnished image of our school. The ball is now in the ministry’s court,” Lopušina articulated.
