Janović Leads Young Water Polo Players to Victory in World Championship Opener
The Montenegro U18 water polo team kicked off the World Championship in Buenos Aires with a win.
In their opening match of Group A, our team triumphed over the United States with a score of 13:11 (5:2, 4:3, 2:4, 2:2).
The “Sharks” started strong, pulling ahead with a 7:2 lead, but the Americans fought back and closed the gap to just one goal by the third quarter, trailing 10:9.
The game ended with a thrilling finish, highlighted by Srđan Janović, who netted the crucial last two goals—first scoring to make it 12:10 and then sealing the match at 13:11 with just one minute and 52 seconds remaining.
Leading the line for Montenegro was Janović, who scored four goals, while Tim Perov contributed three, and Draško Samardžić added two. Danilo Stupar, Andrija Roganović, Nikola Petrović, and Strahinja Gojković each chipped in with one goal.
Montenegro will face Hungary in the second round, with that match scheduled for the night between Wednesday and Thursday at 1:30 AM our time.
