Sunday Volleyball Extravaganza in Budva
The Montenegrin Cup finals for both men and women will take place this Sunday in Budva, featuring Herceg Novi and Luka Bar in the women’s division, and Budva and Budućnost in the men’s division, as announced by the Volleyball Federation.
This marks the second consecutive season that Herceg Novi and Luka Bar will clash for the Cup trophy, with the team from Novi looking to defend their title after winning in the 2022/23 season.
This year, the top teams from the championship, apart from the EPCG Superleague, also faced off in the inaugural Montenegrin Supercup.
Coach Srđan Crnojački noted that his team is competing in the Montenegrin Cup final for the third year running.
“The upcoming match will be our fourth against each other this season. We have learned from all three previous encounters. We managed to win each one, but they have all become progressively tougher. This serves as a valuable reminder for us. I expect a challenging match where the chances will be evenly spread,” said coach Srđan Crnojački during a press briefing.
Luka Bar has not secured a Cup trophy since 2017 when they celebrated victory for the seventh time in this popular competition, having reached five finals since that win.
Luka Bar’s coach, Vladimir Milačić, acknowledged that the team from Herceg Novi has been the dominant force in the local league in recent times.
“This season, they are quite strong in terms of technique and tactics, well-coached. At the start of the season, I mentioned that the gap between our two teams has narrowed compared to previous years. We see more opportunities now, and I hope we can capitalize on them. I look forward to an exciting game, and I trust both finals will leave the audience entertained,” said Milačić.
The women’s final is set to kick off at 4 p.m.
In the men’s competition, Budva and Budućnost will face off in their fourth Cup final in the last five years, starting two and a half hours later.
Budva has yet to lose a set in any competition this season, with their main rival across all fronts being Budućnost, who they will also meet in the upcoming EPCG Super League final.
Coach Miljan Bošković shared that the Budva players have put in significant effort throughout the season to prepare for the two finals on the horizon.
“We are ready to give our all and hopefully celebrate victory. Both teams have made great strides. I’m confident the audience will be treated to a fantastic display; it’s time for some volleyball action!” Bošković expressed.
Despite facing multiple health concerns, Budućnost is determined to put up a fight and is hopeful for their first cup win in the club’s recent history.
Podgorica’s volleyball coach, Dejan Radić, anticipates that Sunday’s match will be a true spectacle, uniting the volleyball community in Montenegro.
“I hope we can compete valiantly. We have been preparing all year for this moment, and our only job is to step onto the court and perform at our best. While we have some health issues, I believe we have a strong enough team to mitigate the absence of key players. We’re aiming to play well and secure the trophy, the first in our recent history,” said Dejan Radić.
For the first time in Montenegrin club volleyball history, teams will have access to a challenge system.
The 2025 Montenegrin Cup Finals will welcome numerous distinguished guests from the volleyball community across Europe and the region, including CEV President Roko Sikirić.
