With Duško Ivanović at the helm, the Virtus basketball team has found its footing in the Euroleague, achieving three wins in four matches under the guidance of the Montenegrin coach.
The latest victory for the Bologna squad came last night in the 18th round, where they triumphed over Asvel with a score of 83:69, despite Asvel arriving in Italy on the back of three straight wins in the competition.
From the onset of the game, Ivanovic’s squad took the lead, even stretching the advantage to a maximum of 25 points (56:31). With this win, their record improves to 5-13, while Asvel’s stands at eight wins and ten losses.
“We played a complete match—both defensively and offensively. We battled hard and enjoyed ourselves,” Ivanovic commented after the game.
Post-match, Ivanovic praised Rajjon Tucker’s performance.
“Tucker is training well and remains focused. He performed admirably, particularly on defense, expending a lot of energy and assisting his teammates,” Ivanovic stated.
The match was played without Toko Senegelia, but another player familiar to Ivanovic from Baskonia, Akile Polonara, made a notable impact. The Italian international recorded 17 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and an efficiency rating of 28. Interestingly, last night marked Polonara’s 50th Euroleague game under Ivanovic’s coaching.
“I’m pleased with my performance and the way I’m playing. When I’m with Duško Ivanovic, I feel a lot of confidence. We aim to kick off 2025 on a positive note. I believe that we can perform better in the second half of the Euroleague season than we have so far,” commented Polonara.
In the upcoming round, Virtus will face Panathinaikos at home on January 20.
