Montenegro intends to perform a comprehensive assessment of the development potential within local governments and allocate resources for maximizing these potentials, stated Ernad Suljević, the Minister of Regional Investment Development and Cooperation with NGOs.
He highlighted the crucial role of foreign investments in this endeavor, as they are vital for economic growth, technological advancement, and job creation.
Suljević, along with State Secretary Mirsada Bošnjak, is on an official visit to Poland to attend the 10th European Congress of Local Governments taking place in Mikolajki.
The non-governmental organization Foundation Institute for Eastern Studies, which examines political, economic, and social issues in Eastern Europe, invited them to participate in the congress in collaboration with the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.
The ministry announced that Suljević addressed the congress, which “attracted a significant number of state officials,” discussing two primary themes: “The Role of Foreign Investment in Regional Development” and “Global Challenges – Local Solutions.”
While discussing the impact of foreign investment, he noted that the Ministry of Regional Investment Development and Cooperation with NGOs, though newly established, holds considerable potential to aid regional development through collaboration with local communities. He stressed the significance of attracting foreign investment as a pivotal factor for economic growth, technological progress, and job creation.
During the panel on “Global Challenges – Local Solutions”, Suljević emphasized the importance of local community responses to global challenges such as economic difficulties, climate change, and technological transformations. He remarked that while globalization presents numerous opportunities, it also introduces significant challenges that must be tackled with innovative and pragmatic local solutions. Furthermore, he underscored that cooperation between national and local authorities is essential for effective policy implementation at the regional level, noting that the establishment of the Partnership Council for Regional Development fosters better coordination and expedited policy execution.
The ministry’s statement indicated that Suljević’s visit is particularly significant for enhancing bilateral and economic relations between Montenegro and Poland, which is regarded as a supportive partner to the nation. The ties between the two countries have been further reinforced through their collaboration within the NATO alliance.
During his time in Poland, Suljević plans to meet with Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digitalization, Krzysztof Gavkowski, as well as with the Minister of Funds and Regional Policy, Katarzyna Pelczynska.
