The basketball team Podgorica Bemax has appointed a new head coach for the third time this season.
After parting ways with Dragan Radović and Boško Radović, the team has placed their trust in Marko Sekulić, who takes over after his role as the head coach of the Montenegrin national team.
“This is a tremendous honor and a great pleasure for me, as I have spent four years with the club as a junior coach. It certainly acknowledges my hard work and commitment,” Sekulić remarked.
This role marks his debut in senior basketball coaching.
“I am grateful to the club for their trust, which serves as great motivation for me. I look forward to working with a remarkably talented group, as our cadets and juniors were state champions last season, and we will surely be integrating many of them into the senior team. This is a fantastic opportunity for them, and for me, it represents a significant step forward in my career, as this will be my first experience in senior basketball,” Sekulić added.
Podgorica and Boško Radović have parted ways after the team failed to qualify for the NLB ABA2 league finals.
“Boško Radović had an agreement to remain on board until the end of 2024, with the possibility of extending his contract if the second stage of the NLB ABA2 league was successfully navigated. However, since Podgorica did not advance past the group stage, Radović expressed his gratitude for the collaboration, and the club’s leadership chose to revitalize the team by focusing on the younger players who had won the junior championship of Montenegro last season. Therefore, the decision to appoint Marko Sekulić, a young expert who has led Podgorica’s juniors for four years and currently coaches the junior national team, was anticipated,” Podgorica stated.
