Community Initiatives: Campaign Launched to Restore Lim River Banks and Manage Water Sources
On the occasion of International Water Day, residents of Rasovo in Bijelo Polje launched an ecological cleanup initiative along the banks of the Lim River at a site known as Kula. Their goal is to rehabilitate the area which has become overrun with garbage and weeds, a place once enjoyed by all for its clean water.
According to the NGO Euromost, this location is among multiple areas near the Lim River that are littered with various types of municipal waste. They report that floating debris has accumulated, and once the river levels drop and conditions allow, they will work alongside community members to remove all such waste. Furthermore, they plan to install benches to transform the area into a resting spot rather than a dumping ground near the water source.
The NGO Euromost is hopeful that the Municipality of Bijelo Polje will become actively involved. They emphasize that they are not waiting for citizens to organize on their own but are instead urging local authorities to publicly advocate for a healthier environment, a cleaner Lim River, and improved air quality.
