TIKA Plays a Key Role in Enhancing Montenegro-Turkey Relations
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ervin Ibrahimović, held a meeting today in Podgorica with Serkan Kajalar, the President of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), who is currently visiting Montenegro.
During their discussions, the significant role of TIKA in enhancing the relationship between Montenegro and Turkey was highlighted, acknowledging its considerable contribution to the advancement of bilateral cooperation.
Since TIKA established its office in Podgorica back in 2007, it has successfully implemented approximately 500 developmental projects, with a cumulative value surpassing 20 million euros.
Minister Ibrahimović remarked that “TIKA is a fundamental component of the Montenegro-Turkey success story,” underscoring the agency’s presence throughout all regions of Montenegro via its diverse projects. He noted that this vibrant cooperation is paralleled by an active high-level political dialogue, reinforcing both nations’ dedication to nurturing and further enhancing their amicable relations.
He also emphasized the significance of collaboration in education and culture, along with the potential for new initiatives in transport infrastructure. “Concrete achievements, the success of Turkish enterprises in Montenegro, and the increasing interest in new investments are the best evidence of our cooperation. All these factors not only bolster economic ties but also enhance overall intergovernmental relations,” stated Ibrahimović.
TIKA President Kajalar pointed out that the cooperation between Turkey and Montenegro has witnessed significant growth since his last visit four years ago. He acknowledged that the quantity and effectiveness of completed projects across Montenegrin municipalities serve as the finest evidence of both nations’ commitment to strengthening their ties.
“Our aspiration was to reach every corner of Montenegro, and we have accomplished that,” Kajalar stated, expressing his appreciation to the Montenegrin government for its support and successful collaboration. He revealed that TIKA executed 35 projects in Montenegro last year, with even more ambitious plans for 2025. “We take particular pride in the fact that these initiatives have a direct positive impact on the daily lives of citizens.”
The meeting reinforced the commitment of both parties to further enhance bilateral cooperation and Turkey’s dedication to promoting stability and prosperity in the Western Balkans.
