The capital city has assumed the founding rights of the Budućnost Bemaks Women’s Handball Club, as determined during the Assembly meeting.
A total of 34 councilors voted in favor of this decision, with one against and one abstention.
Luka Rakčević, the initiative’s proponent, stated that this action has saved ŽRK Budućnost.
“We ensured the club would not close its doors on its 75th anniversary. We will be remembered for this noble act of preserving the club,” said Rakčević.
By reintegrating the Capital City into its management after over twenty years, Budućnost aims to extinguish the financial crisis triggered by the departure of its main sponsor, the Bemaks company.
At one stage, the club’s future was in jeopardy, but this change in ownership has resolved that concern.
The club is also set to participate in the Champions League, which had been in doubt as well.
In the 2024 budget, the capital has earmarked €500,000 for Budućnost, but due to legal stipulations, this funding could only be transferred to clubs that are founded by the city.
