Videos have surfaced on social media capturing plainclothes police officer Lazar Bačić, who sustained an eye injury during a protest in Serbia, being struck by a gendarmerie member outside the RTS headquarters in Belgrade.

The footage shared on the social platform Iks shows a gendarme in riot gear delivering a punch to a plainclothes officer who is perched on a fence along Aberdareva Street, causing him to lose his balance and tumble to the ground. Based on his attire and additional footage and images, it is inferred that the injured individual is officer Lazar Bačić, as reported by N1.

Previously, another video showed the plainclothes officer before the intervention of the Gendarmerie.

The footage reveals a police cordon advancing toward the RTS entrance on Aberdareva Street, while security personnel formed a human barrier at the entrance. The plainclothes officer was seen moving along the fence, pausing momentarily before “entering” a column of uniformed officers who were marching briskly, during which he was apparently struck and injured, according to N1.

Just moments later, he is observed leaving the area in the opposite direction, visibly injured.

In a clip shared with N1 by onlookers, a student police officer can be spotted trailing the injured plainclothes officer, exclaiming “sir…” and “help him,” while earlier a bystander asked, “are you okay, do you need help?”

Meanwhile, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić claimed last night that “Bolshevik plenum members” were responsible for the attack outside the RTS building.

Vučić shared a photo with Bačić, alleging that the member of the Serbian Interior Ministry was “struck with a punch.”

“While on duty and entering the RTS building to establish a presence inside, the Gendarmerie faced obstructions and was assaulted, resulting in one officer sustaining an eye injury and being transported to the Emergency Center. Following the Gendarmerie’s entry into the RTS building, there were no further conflicts or interventions,” the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.

An altercation occurred last night in front of the RTS building when the Gendarmerie breached a student-formed human shield.

According to video evidence circulating on social media, police officers were seen striking several citizens gathered in the area with batons.

An N1 reporter noted that students attempted to erect barriers, leading to a confrontation with law enforcement.

Students have been obstructing access to the RTS building since last night after the public service referred to them as a “mob.” This blockade is expected to persist for 22 hours, as announced.
