What an incredible addition for Jadran – one of the most outstanding water polo players of the last decade, Aleksandar Ivović, has returned to the club where his illustrious career began.
Up until this season, he had been wearing the jersey of the top European club, Pro Reka, which he joined in 2010 after departing from Škver.
The announcement, which is undeniably the transfer of the year in Montenegrin water polo, was made by Jadran.
“I have returned to a pool that evokes strong emotions in me, and I am thrilled to be discussing wonderful water polo events. I have come to Herceg Novi to conclude my career,” said Ivović.
Despite being in the later stages of his career, it’s clear that the long-standing member of the Montenegro national team and five-time Champions League winner will be a significant asset for Novalja.
“I am pleased that the situation has evolved positively regarding my health and the club’s management, which has been working to bring me back for years… I’m truly happy that I get to close my journey this way,” added Leka.
Ivović affirmed that this is indeed the right way to wrap up his career.
“Yes, I have returned to my homeland and the club where I developed, and I hope to add value to the team, particularly in our domestic championship where we aim to reclaim the title – our primary goal,” Ivović emphasized.
As for Europe, Jadran is looking forward to qualifying for the Champions League…
“Certainly, if we get the opportunity, we aim to progress as far as we can.”
Earlier this summer, Jadran also signed Đorđe Lazić, Dimitrij Obradović, and Vuk Milojević, and extended contracts for national team players Vasilije Radović, Jovan Vujović, and goalkeeper Darko Đurović.
“We can feel very satisfied with how the transition period has been managed,” Ivović concluded.
In 2010, Leka transitioned from Jadran to Pro Reko, with brief stints at Jugo from Dubrovnik in 2012 and 2013, before returning to Genoa where he played until this season.
The Italian powerhouse, which has long been a dominant force in European water polo, saw the departure of its long-time head, Gabriele Volpi, and main sponsor Orlean Invest this summer. Players were given the option to leave the club if they wished.
