The Montenegrin women’s national football team defeated the Lithuanian national team 3:1 today in Podgorica, in the second round match of Group C4 of the UEFA Nations League.

This is the first triumph of the Montenegrin women’s football team, after the opening draw in Baku with Azerbaijan (0:0).

Coach Mirko Marić’s team didn’t shine, but they lived up to expectations and outplayed their rivals, especially in the second half, and deservedly celebrated.

They took the lead practically from the first serious attack – Armisa Kuč took advantage of Anđela Tošković’s excellent cross in the second minute and headed it into the Lithuanian goal.

This was followed by a period of weaker play by the Montenegrin team, which the visitors took advantage of and seriously threatened the goal several times.

In the 14th minute, the referees disallowed Rimantea Jonušaite’s goal, while the same player had another chance a minute later, but Montenegrin goalkeeper Anastasija Krstović made an excellent save.

Kuč had a chance to make it 2:0 in the 22nd minute, but Lithuanian goalkeeper Meda Šeškute was more successful.

Lithuania’s better play in that period was crowned by Maria Galkina’s equalizer in the 29th minute.

Just eight minutes later, Montenegro took the lead again – Kuč converted Jasna Đoković’s excellent cross into a goal and a 2:1 lead.

In stoppage time, the referees completed a poor serve and disallowed Jasna Đoković’s shot.

Kuč solved all doubts about the winner with an effective goal in the 57th minute.

She could have scored in the 60th minute, but the Lithuanian goalkeeper made an excellent save.

Jelena Karličić and Anđela Tošković also had the opportunity to score, but they lacked concentration in their absence.

Lithuania also had its chances in the final, but Krstović made an important contribution to the triumph this time too.

Selma Ličina, captain of the German team Meppen, made her debut in a Montenegrin jersey in a competitive match.

The Montenegrin national team will continue its competition in Group C4 on April 8th with a match against Azerbaijan.
