Prime Minister Engages with Representatives from Ulcinj Municipality and Municipal Assembly
Today, Prime Minister Milojko Spajić made a visit to the Municipality of Ulcinj, where he engaged with the Municipality President Genci Nimanbegu and other representatives from political parties within the Municipal Assembly.
The discussion centered around Ulcinj’s development vision, investor interest, and the current beach lease tender process.
Prime Minister Spajić pointed out that Montenegro stands at a crucial juncture for vigorous development and attracting prominent global investors.
We must make wise choices. In the past, this hasn’t always been the case. I relayed to the residents of Ulcinj a message from prominent global investors, specifically Emmar and Eagle Hills, who are keen on revealing their development plans for Velika Plaža and a leading European tourism project, noted the Prime Minister.
He also clarified that, following the lapse of the Economic Cooperation Agreement with the United Arab Emirates in 2022—an opportunity missed by prior governments—this administration aims to rekindle that partnership. This agreement will lay the groundwork for significant development initiatives in both the northern and southern parts of Montenegro.
In discussions with political party representatives in the Ulcinj Municipal Assembly, we examined local community interests and the overall situation in Montenegro. I also communicated a message from the UAE and investor Mohamed Alabbar related to an upcoming project discussion. We encountered a variety of opinions, concerns, and challenges associated with any major vision. Every large-scale project demands substantial effort, which is why we need to tackle it collaboratively with the local government, emphasized Prime Minister Spajić.
At the Prime Minister’s urging, the investor has opted to allow local entrepreneurs to keep the beaches they had leased previously, maintaining the same prices agreed upon during the tender process.
President of the Municipality of Ulcinj, Genci Nimanbegu, remarked that the potential project represents a significant and vital issue for the municipality.
This is not a decision to rush; it necessitates thorough discussion and consideration of all perspectives. I hope the Prime Minister conveys to all investors he engages with that they are welcome here, as their involvement is beneficial to the local community. For decades, we have observed a consistent government stance, but the Prime Minister’s visit today signals a new approach, stated Nimanbegu.
The representatives of political parties in the Ulcinj Municipal Assembly expressed their appreciation to the Prime Minister for his transparency and readiness to collaboratively evaluate major development projects while respecting the specific needs of the local population.
