Blažo Radjenović, the head of the Budva branch of the Civic Movement URA, has urged Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, Minister of Economic Development Niko Đeljošaj, and Minister of Tourism Smonida Kordić to make a public declaration regarding the agreement made with Novak Đoković about the Sveti Stefan hotel, which was arranged “behind closed doors and out of public sight.”
Radjenović explained, “Minister Đeljošaj, identifying himself as the sole minister authorized by Prime Minister Spajić to address the relationship between the Sveti Stefan tenant and the Government, met with three members of the Sveti Stefan Local Community Council in his office last year. He informed us that the tenant had breached their contractual obligations and failed to rectify all irregularities, open the hotel, settle debts, and properly organize the bathing area, all as required by the Government last year. Therefore, according to Đeljošaj, this warranted the Government to terminate the contract. At that time, Minister Đeljošaj assured us that the Government would take action at its next session. However, more than seven months have passed, and we are still awaiting a response.”
He expressed their growing impatience.
“As our livelihoods depend entirely on whether the hotels Sveti Stefan and Miločer will operate, we are already experiencing significant damage due to this uncertainty. We are left in the dark regarding the fate of these hotels and the beaches covered by the contract for the upcoming season. Daily cancellations of our reservations are taking place, and local residents or business owners in hospitality, retail, and food services are unable to adequately prepare as they don’t know if they can secure loans for investment or staff engagement. This uncertainty from the current 44th Government of Montenegro is causing us great distress. We must not be forced to fight for justice and our rights through protests. While we will not obstruct the movement of citizens on the streets, we will block the Government, and perhaps then you will take us seriously and address the issue of Sveti Stefan (to ensure it operates again) or perhaps you would prefer to arrest us? It doesn’t matter to us. We will not back down,” Radjenović concluded.
