One of Budva’s most popular city beaches, Pizana, a bathing area right next to the city walls, will be granted the status of a city beach.
The Public Company for Coastal Zone Management, which announced tenders for the lease of 96 Budva beaches from Buljarica to Jaz about ten days ago, has excluded this old town beach, for the first time since tenders by this state-owned company have been published.
As “Vijesti” was told, Morsko dobro has decided that this year, as well as all subsequent seasons until 2028, to return the status of a city beach to Pisana, but also to pay great attention to the condition and cleanliness of that part of the Budva coast.
Pizana Beach was awarded to the company “Dukley Hotel” in a tender in 2019, but it was never put into operation. It remained a public beach maintained by the Municipality, after the Swimming Water Polo Club (PVK) “Budva” did not rent out the premises, formerly “Maša”, which it owns, to the tenant.
In previous seasons, the condition of the beach was not representative, because the local government and its companies did not maintain cleanliness at the level it deserves.
The Municipality of Budva strangely acquired the property of the Swimming Water Polo Club, the swimming pool in Pizana, and the former restaurant “Maša” at a time when the city was governed by trustees, that is, in August 2022. It was precisely four trustees, close to the then unified Budva DF, while Marko Carević was the first man of Budva, who voted for the Decision on amending and supplementing the Decision on establishing the sports club Swimming Water Polo Club “Budva – Budvanska rivijera”, which returned the property of the defunct water polo club to the Municipality after 14 years.
Now, a clear stance has prevailed in Morski dobro that Pizana should no longer be leased, and that they will take care of it.
“Vijesti” has learned that employees have been ordered to urgently work on restoring the status of a public beach to Pizana Beach and that the Coastal Zone’s position that will be presented in the media to citizens and tourists is that different generations of Budva residents should return to the beach because many of them identify it with the most beautiful emotions from their childhood.
Director Mladen Mikijelj, as told to “Vijesti”, pointed out to his colleagues that the task of the Coastal Zone is not only to ensure that the budget and tourist demands are met, although they are doing this much better than before, but that it is also an obligation to take into account the needs and wishes of citizens.
The PR service of the state-owned company indicates that we have witnessed that in the past many beaches were inaccessible and that the citizens of Montenegro were prevented from using them.
“Beaches have become a luxury for the elite, which is why we put a stop to this bad practice in 2020, but that’s not enough. Now we’re moving on to the next phase – to make city beaches the most beautiful places to relax and enjoy, and we’ll tackle Pisan first,” the PR service of JP Morsko dobro told “Vijesti”.
The beach is located next to the Old Town, below the northeastern city tower Repeno. It is completely pebbled and about 50 meters long. It is attractive both because of its location and the experience created by the walls of the Old Town and the view of the island of Sveti Nikola.
In Morski dobro, they are considering providing free deck chairs and umbrellas for the beach, but they will decide on this in consultation with the locals.
The public company claims that the biggest problem in recent years has been the city’s municipal utility company’s negligence towards the beach and the area around it. Unfortunately, they say, the beach was not maintained, and citizens had to take care of its condition with their own efforts.
“JP Morsko dobro will provide the highest standard this year and Pizana will once again be a place that reminds us of old Budva, childhood and will bring positive emotions,” concluded the interlocutors of “Vijesti” from JP Morsko dobro.
In December last year, the Public Company for Maritime Zone Management of Montenegro announced its intention to conduct a tender procedure for the reconstruction and development of Pizana beach in Budva, which, they announced at the time, will officially become a public beach in 2025.
The planned works, as they stated at the time, include the rehabilitation of the coastal wall, terrain preparation (cleaning, leveling and stabilizing the soil to achieve optimal safety and aesthetics), and the installation of beach equipment (procurement and installation of adequate beach equipment – cabins and showers, as well as lifeguard towers).
“The goal of the reconstruction and development is to create a functional beach accessible to all citizens and tourists, improving the offer of Budva as a destination that nurtures a diverse tourist offer and natural values. We invite all interested parties to apply for the tender after the tender is announced, about which the public will be informed in a timely manner via the official website of the electronic public procurement system, and to contribute to the future appearance of Pizana beach,” the Coastal Zone announced at the time.
