Zvezda Triumphs in Baskonia as Monaco and Olympiakos Shine atop the Standings

Crvena Zvezda achieved an impressive victory against Baskonia in Vitoria during the 19th round of the Euroleague, winning 75:73 (16:16, 26:12, 18:24, 15:21).
Ajzeja Kenan emerged as the hero for the “red and whites,” scoring the decisive basket with just 3.4 seconds remaining.
Nigerian Ćima Monueke was poised to lead the final attack towards overtime, finding himself in a good shooting position, but his attempt hit the rim.
Monueke led the team with 18 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while Joel Bolomboy contributed 16 points and eight rebounds. Kenan finished with 15 points but struggled with only one successful three-point attempt out of eight while wearing the Zvezda jersey.
Zvezda’s season record stands at 11 wins and 8 losses, while Baskonia’s record is 8 wins and 11 losses.
Looking ahead, Zvezda will host three games, starting with a match against Paris in the Arena.
Meanwhile, Olympiakos triumphed over Žalgiris on the road with a score of 92:85 (18:22, 22:30, 27:19, 25:14) in the same Euroleague round.
Saša Vezenkov led the Greek squad with 24 points and seven rebounds, with additional contributions from Shaquille McKissick (17 points), Evan Fournier (14 points), and Thomas Walkup (13 points, five assists).
For Žalgiris, Silvan Francisco was the standout, scoring 22 points and dishing out six assists. Davidas Servidis added 12 points, while Serbian player Alen Smailagić contributed 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
With this victory, Olympiakos claimed their 13th win, positioning themselves second in the standings alongside Monaco, while Žalgiris sits ninth with 10 wins and 9 losses.
Olympiakos will next face Bayern at home on January 10, and Žalgiris will host Real Madrid.
In Berlin, Monaco secured a 105:90 victory against Alba (30:21, 25:14, 24:32, 26:23). Mike James was the standout player for Monaco, scoring 23 points, along with seven assists and four rebounds. Matthew Strazel and Jaron Blossomgame also shined with 18 and 17 points, respectively.
Eli Okobo added 13 points and four assists, Jordan Lloyd scored 12 points, and Donatas Motijejunas contributed 11 points and six rebounds.
For Alba, Matt Thomas led the scoring with 17 points, followed by Tim Schneider and Matteo Spagnolo, each contributing 13 points. Monaco reclaimed the top spot on the table with a record of 13 wins and 6 losses, matched by Olympiakos, while Alba is at the bottom with three wins and 16 losses.
In the upcoming fixtures, Monaco will face Barcelona on January 9, and Alba will take on Fenerbahçe in Istanbul.
Milan’s basketball team also secured a win in France against Asvel, ending with a score of 75:66 (19:19, 17:13, 15:19, 24:15). Nikola Mirotic led the way for the Italian team with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Zack Leday chipped in with 17 points and six rebounds. Chevon Shields and Nicolo Mannion also added seven points each.
Nando de Kolo was the leading scorer for Asvel with 22 points, while Teo Maledon added 18 points, and Andre Roberson registered 12 points, along with six rebounds.
Milan currently ranks 10th in the standings with 10 wins and 9 losses, whereas Asvel is at the 15th spot with eight wins and 11 losses.
Next, Milan will host Maccabi from Tel Aviv on January 9 in Belgrade, while Asvel will compete against Efes a day later in Istanbul.
