A Crucial Victory: Strong Defense Leads to Effective Offense
The weakest team in the group, Buducnost Volija, encountered no issues as they effortlessly defeated Trefl Sopot in the 13th round of the Eurocup with a score of 81:69.
The players in blue and white were aware that they couldn’t afford any mistakes if they were to keep their playoff aspirations alive.
“First, I want to commend the players for this victory. It was a challenging match for us, one that was essential to secure in order to remain in contention for the playoffs,” stated Andrej Žakelj, Budućnosti’s coach, during the post-match press conference.
The initial game in Podgorica against the same opponent saw a lack of concentration in the second half, which allowed Trefl to pose a threat in the “Morača.” However, the situation was entirely different this time.
“Trefl is a resilient team that never gives up, so I urged my players to stay focused until the final whistle,” Žakelj highlighted.
The Slovenian coach pointed out specific aspects of his team’s performance.
“Our objective was victory, and I believe the match showcased some solid defensive work—when that’s in place, the offense benefits as well… This was a crucial win for us, and we will keep pushing forward,” Žakelj concluded.
