“I Regret Claiming He Was the Shooter in My Anger”

DNA analysis revealed that Amil Kučević’s vehicle contained traces likely belonging to Sead Brzać.

This was disclosed yesterday at the High Court, where Sead Brzać (50) is facing charges of attempted murder.

The indictment states that on May 31 of last year, around 6:30 p.m., in the Zaimovića Livade neighborhood of Bijelo Polje, this fifty-year-old man allegedly tried to kill Amil Kučević by firing a projectile through a closed window of Kučević’s vehicle, resulting in life-threatening injuries, specifically gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen.

In reference to the DNA findings, Brzać’s defense attorney, Drago Konatar, claimed yesterday that the presence of traces on Kučević’s car could be explained by various circumstances, noting that the trace identified was mixed and could have been the result of different interactions.

Brzać asserted in his defense that he did not fire at Kučević but had merely approached the car to ask the driver to wait due to a crane associated with the video surveillance cameras installed at his residence.

He previously indicated in court that upon reaching the vehicle, he noticed the driver appeared to be in distress.

“I saw his face turned away, mumbling and gurgling. It was then that I recognized Amil Kučević and realized something was wrong,” he stated.

Brzać explained that he distanced himself because of prior issues with Kučević and later learned from his wife about a rumor circulating in town that he had shot him.

He mentioned a past incident in 2023 where Amil was speeding on his quad bike, which Brzać felt posed a danger to his child, leading to a confrontation in which Amil allegedly pushed him against a vehicle, exacerbating his asthma.

The injured party, Amil Kučević, confirmed seeing Brzać approach him.

“As Sead came closer, I suddenly noticed a figure in a helmet on my left, dressed in black, and then I heard a gunshot,” he recounted, realizing he had been hit.

He expressed feeling extremely unwell and was unsure how he managed to survive.

Kučević mentioned that as Brzać approached his vehicle, he quietly asked for assistance, but Brzać merely turned away.

According to his estimation, Brzać was about 50 meters away at the point of the shooting. He was clear in court yesterday that Sead did not fire at him…

During the investigation, however, he provided a detailed account of how Brzić approached the vehicle, gritting his teeth, attempting to open the door while placing the gun’s muzzle against his temple…

Confronted with inconsistencies in his testimonies, Kučević insisted in court that he had previously been convinced of Brzać’s involvement and that he may have been influenced by tranquilizers during prior questioning, reiterating that Brzać did not shoot him.

When asked to clarify claims from the investigation stating that “on the day of the incident, Sead Brzać was holding a firearm in his right hand, positioned at stomach level,” Kučević responded:

“At the time, I was sure Sead was connected to the shooting incident, but now I cannot assert that,” he clarified, admitting his inability to describe the shooter.

The trial is scheduled to continue on March 4.

Attempted to Open the Door Before Firing

According to the indictment, Brzać allegedly attempted to end Kučević’s life by approaching an “Alfa Romeo” (BP-BU 179) that was halted behind a stationary truck with a crane.

The document asserts that Brzać grabbed the driver’s door lock and instructed Kučević to open it. When Kučević failed to comply due to the door being locked, Brzać fired a single round from an unidentified pistol of 7.65 mm caliber through the closed window, striking Kučević in the left side of the chest and causing significant, life-threatening injuries:

“The gunshot created a wound to the chest and abdomen, with an entrance wound located on the left side, extending through to the chest cavity, fracturing the 8th rib on the left,” as stated in the indictment…
