Young Water Polo Team Falls Short Against Hungary
The Montenegro U19 water polo team faced a defeat against Hungary, ending the match at 13:9 (4:3, 3:2, 3:2, 3:2) in the second round of group A at the European Championship taking place in Bulgaria.
In their opening match yesterday, our team was edged out by Spain with a score of 8:6.
Montenegro is set to compete against Croatia in the last group stage round tomorrow at 16:45.
During today’s game, Hungary took the lead early and established a crucial advantage by the middle of the third quarter, holding a 9:5 lead.
Montenegro managed to close the gap to 10:8 with six minutes remaining, but Hungary responded with a 3:0 run, sealing the match.
For Montenegro, Tim Perov, Srđan Janović, and Strahinja Gojković each netted two goals, while Draško Samardžić, Balša Vučković, and Danilo Stupar contributed one goal each.
The tournament structure at the European Championship dictates that the top two teams from groups A and B will qualify for the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, the third-place teams will compete against the second-place teams from groups C and D in the round of 16.
Additionally, the winners of groups C and D will match up against the fourth-placed teams from groups A and B as they aim to secure a spot in the top eight.
