Young Water Polo Team Falls to Spain

The U19 water polo squad of Montenegro kicked off the European Championship in Burgas, Bulgaria with a challenging loss.

Under the guidance of Miodrag Mirović, the team suffered a defeat against Spain with a score of 1:8 during the sixth round of Group A, notably conceding a 3:0 run in the final quarter.

Montenegro initially led the game 2:0 and 5:3, scoring its last goal two minutes and fifty seconds before the conclusion of the third period when Balša Vučković netted during an extra-player attack.

Following this, only Aguirre (twice) and Autrik found the back of the net for Spain.

In the last forty seconds, Mirović’s players had two opportunities to equalize at 7:7, but Spain successfully defended while a player was excluded.

Vučković emerged as the standout performer for Montenegro, scoring three goals, while Nikola Petrović, Tim Perov, and Srđan Janović contributed one goal each.

Montenegro is set to face Hungary on Monday at 13:15 and Croatia on Tuesday at 16:45.

The top two teams from groups A and B will secure direct berths in the quarterfinals, while the third-placed teams will face the second-placed teams from groups C and D in the round of 16.

The winners of groups C and D will compete against the fourth-placed teams from groups A and B to advance to the final eight.
