Luka Bar Shines in Break Against Buducnost as High School Player Ensures League Survival

The final round of the EPCG Super League delivered plenty of thrills and a significant twist that shaped the standings ahead of the play-offs. Luka Bar emerged victorious over Buducnost in a dramatic five-set match, securing second place, while Herceg Novi, as anticipated, ended the league phase at the top of the table with a win in Bijelo Polje. Albatros triumphed against Budva following a remarkable comeback, and Gimnazijalac ensured their survival with a crucial victory over Galeb. The concluding match of the round between Akademija and Morača is set to determine the play-off contenders and pairings for the EPCG Super League in women’s volleyball.

The match in Bar truly lived up to its “derby” designation, with Luka Bar overcoming Buducnost in five sets to claim second place in the standings, ending with a record of 16-2. The “Sirens” triumphed with scores of 19:25, 25:13, 25:15, 28:30, and 15:7. This win propels Luka Bar into the semi-finals of the playoffs, with their opponent to be determined after the play-in matches. Buducnost finished the league segment in third place with a 15-3 record, marking their first defeat in the latter part of the championship. The standout performer for the winning team was Dijana Vukovic, who delivered an impressive 24 points. Teodora Čavić contributed 16 points, while middle blockers Aieska Ferreira and Tijana Kruta secured 11 points each. Captain Dušanka Petrović also reached double figures with 10 points. For Buducnost, Kristina Božović was the top scorer with 13 points, closely followed by Lana Rakočević with 12. Mileva Magdelinić and Sara Belojević added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

In another thrilling match, Albatros claimed victory over the home team in Budva after an impressive comeback, winning 3:2 (20:25, 23:25, 25:13, 25:16, 15:10). Despite their loss, Budva managed to earn a point, placing them currently in fifth position ahead of Morača, who can reclaim that spot with a victory against Akademija in Tivat on Monday. The Novalja team finished fourth with a record of 10-8. Marija Tuševljak was the standout player for Albatros, scoring 23 points, while Amina Music and Viktorija Položevets added 17 and 16 points, respectively. Noteworthy performances for Budva came from Vanja Matunović and Elena Čolaković, both achieving 23 points.

Herceg Novi’s volleyball team achieved a convincing 3:0 victory (25:20, 25:20, 25:20) over Jedinstvo in Bijelo Polje, as anticipated, ending the league phase of the EPCG Super League in first place with 17 wins and just one loss to Buducnost. This position secures them direct entry into the semi-finals and home-court advantage in the playoffs. Jedinstvo awaits the match’s outcome between Akademija and Morača to determine if they will secure survival or have to battle for a spot in the elite during the play-offs. Leading Herceg Novi to victory were Žeraldin Gonzales with 16 points and Gordana Madžgalj with 12, while Ivana Šebek was the top scorer for Jedinstvo with 13 points.

The high school team preserved their league status with a 3:1 (25:17, 25:22, 22:25, 25:13) victory over Galeb, marking their sixth win of the season. Matea Kovačec played a pivotal role in this success, excelling with 30 points, while her teammate Tiane De Souza Felix contributed 17. On the other side, Natalija Vlaović was the standout for Galeb, scoring 15 points as they prepare for next season in a lower league.

Akademija and Morača are scheduled to clash on Monday at SD “Župa” in Tivat, starting at 18:00. Akademija must secure a victory to remain in the league, while a loss would relegate them to the quiet zone, allowing Jedinstvo to stay safe. A win for Morača would see them reclaim fifth place in the standings.
