The handball team of Budućnost has advanced to the final of the “Kerman Cup” taking place in Debrecen, Hungary!
In their first preparatory match during the semi-finals against Hungary’s FTC, the “blues” clinched a victory with a score of 34:32. They will face the Norwegian Vipers in the finals on Saturday at 20:25, who triumphed over the host team Debrecen (23:XNUMX).
Under the guidance of coach Bojana Popović, the team delivered a remarkable performance against the Hungarian champions, who are entering the new season with an enhanced roster including four new players: French players Glozer and Kanor, and Russian players Dmitrijeva and Maslova. This earned them an impressive victory, boosting their confidence as they continue their preparations for the upcoming season.
Despite FTC being the favorites, the “blues” demonstrated from the beginning that they could compete with a squad that includes not only Hungarian national players but also athletes from France, the Netherlands, Serbia, Germany, and Russia.
FTC held a 18:15 lead at halftime, but our girls came back strong in the second half, scoring three consecutive goals to equalize at 18:18 by the 32nd minute, thanks to captain Ivona Pavićević’s effort.
The last ten minutes saw the score tied at 28:28 before Budućnost took the lead (31:29) in the 54th minute, with goals from Klara Monti Danijelson and Jelena Radivojević.
All questions regarding the match outcome were answered a minute and a half before the end when Radivojević made it 34:30.
Coach Popović ensured all players had their moment, with goalkeeper Sakura Hauge and pivot Danijelson making their debuts as new additions. The feedback after the first 60 minutes of the new season is overwhelmingly positive!
Radivojević was the top scorer with eight goals, Pavićević added seven, while Danijelson and Mari Plamenova Tomova each contributed four.
Armel Atingre recorded six saves in the first half, and Hauge added seven saves in the second half.
