Aleksandar Saša Zeković informed the Deputy President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Nikola Camaj, about the criminal acts against humanity and other goods protected by international humanitarian law that were committed against at least several hundred individuals, primarily men from Kosovo of Albanian descent. These individuals were forcibly recruited into the People’s Liberation Army of Yugoslavia to continue the fight for the liberation of the then-common state. Zeković has submitted a report with relevant evidence and documents to the Special State Prosecutor’s Office (SDT) of Montenegro, as announced by the Parliament of Montenegro.

The statement notes that today, Camaj met with Zeković, an activist who, along with Zorana Baćović and lawyer Zoran Čelebić, co-authored the study “Hidden Graves: Official Taboo.” This work advocates, in a well-founded and non-revisionist manner, for a rational and humane approach to all innocent victims in Montenegro who suffered due to their national, religious, or political affiliations.

Zeković is also a member of the Civic Initiative “21 May.”

According to the Assembly, Camaj and Zeković discussed the specifics of the criminal complaint as well as the broader context of the massacre in Bar that occurred on April 1, 1945.

“Vice President Camaj informed Zeković about the active and diligent efforts of his team, including himself, in preparing the text of the draft Resolution addressing the suffering of Albanians in Montenegro. This resolution aims to incorporate elements of the criminal complaint submitted to the SDT and the aforementioned study, which has received support from many scholars in Montenegro and the region. They jointly acknowledged the significance of addressing past grievances in a manner free from politicization, ensuring that present and future generations understand the facts and truth about our history without further divisions and social polarization,” reads the Assembly statement.
