“Battle for Second Place at the Derby: A Thrilling Fight for 7th Position Until the End”
The final round of the regular season in the EPCG Women’s Volleyball Super League features several critical matches, particularly in the contest for second place and to avoid the play-offs. Herceg Novi has already clinched the top spot and is now waiting for their semi-final opponents, which will be determined after the clash between Luka Bar and Budućnost.
All eyes will be on the highly anticipated derby on Sunday, where Luka Bar will face Budućnost. The victor of this match will secure second place in the standings and thus earn a spot in the semi-finals. Baranka, alongside Herceg Novi, is one of the only teams to have defeated Budućnost this season. However, the young players from Podgorica are buoyed by their recent victory against the champions and are optimistic about their chances in Topolica. This crucial match in Bar is set to commence on Sunday, March 16, at 16:00.
The eighteenth round will kick off with a match of great importance for the host team. Budva, currently in sixth place with seven wins and ten losses in their inaugural season at the top level, will host Albatros, who are comfortably established in fourth place. Branka Obradović’s squad, having broken a losing streak in the previous round, is gearing up for the most significant matches of the season—the playoffs for the semi-finals where they could potentially meet Budva. The Budva vs. Albatros match will take place at MSC “Budva” on Saturday at 17:00.
The defending champions will conclude the league portion of the season away from home. Herceg Novi will take on Jedinstvo at 18:00, with the latter still battling to maintain their status in the Super League. Herceg Novi secured their top position after defeating Luka Bar with one round remaining, while Jedinstvo, following their win over Galeb, has positioned themselves more favorably than Akademija in their quest for safety. This match will be held at SC “Nikoljac,” and the Bjelopolje team is sure to keep an eye on the outcomes in Kotor and Tivat.
At 19:00, another match will commence involving Gymnasium, who are aiming for victory to remain in the top tier. They will face Galeb, who has endured a disappointing season with only one win. This encounter will take place in the sports hall of the Kotor Gymnasium.
The league season will wrap up on Monday, March 17, with Akademija hosting Morača. Podgorica, like Budva, is vying for fifth place, while Akademija is in urgent need of a win and favorable results elsewhere to avoid a playoff against the second-placed team from the EPCG First League. This match is scheduled for 18:00 at SC “Župa” in Tivat.
