The Mandić Case: A Reflection of Our Troubling Times
The spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Miloš Nikolić, remarked that the initiation of legal action by the police against columnist Brano Mandić constitutes “another contribution to the unfortunate era we are currently experiencing.”
“The police department, which has shown such incompetence that it resulted in the loss of lives in the Royal Capital and failed to detain a seventy-year-old man who terrorized the northern region for over a month, is now pursuing a case against Brano Mandić for a satirical piece. This suggests, I presume, that members of the security sector believe that while they cannot safeguard citizens from murderers and gunfire, they can protect them from words—particularly those that challenge misogyny and sexism. It’s yet another indication of the grim times we are facing in Montenegro today,” Nikolić expressed on his account on the X platform.
Mandić announced today that the Police Directorate has initiated proceedings against him in the Minor Offences Court in Podgorica, stemming from criticisms he made regarding the public statements of University of Montenegro professor Aleksandar Stamatović in his column.
