EPCG’s Dedication to Advancing Renewable Energy Development

The Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG) is dedicated to the strategic advancement of renewable energy sources (RES) and the decarbonization of the energy sector, stated EPCG Executive Director Ivan Bulatović.

This announcement was made at the international conference, the Balkan Solar Summit, which commenced today at Banski Dvor in Banja Luka.

Bulatović emphasized that such gatherings facilitate the sharing of experiences and the enhancement of collaboration among state institutions, businesses, and investors, which is essential for the ongoing development and stability of the energy system.

As noted by EPCG, the conference is acknowledged as one of the most significant energy events in the region.

The event has brought together key players in the renewable energy sector—including experts, business leaders, decision-makers, and investors—to address the primary challenges and opportunities in solar, wind, and hydropower, aiming to promote and foster sustainable energy solutions in the region.

“Additionally, discussions are being held on regulatory frameworks and policies to facilitate the effective implementation of renewable energy projects,” the statement mentioned.

During the panel titled “Completed large energy projects from RES in the region – experiences,” Bulatović noted that diversifying production from RES is a developmental priority for EPCG.

He highlighted several significant energy projects in Montenegro related to RES, including “Solari 3000+ 500+”, “Solari 5000+”, and WP “Gvozd 1”, and indicated plans for the continuation of the project in Gvozd.

Bulatović specifically referenced the Solari projects.

He remarked that the “Solari 3000+ 500+” and “Solari 5000+” initiatives represent a crucial advancement towards Montenegro’s energy transition, enabling citizens and businesses to actively participate in green energy production.

“Our objective is to enhance energy efficiency through this initiative, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and establish a sustainable energy model that yields long-term advantages for both citizens and the national economy,” Bulatović articulated.

He also mentioned that the reconstruction of two major hydroelectric power plants under EPCG, “Peručica” and “Piva,” is currently underway, with preparations for a tender related to battery system procurement in progress.

“Our emphasis is also on the development and integration of battery systems to optimize the utilization of produced energy and bolster the stability of the power system,” Bulatović added.

He also underscored the collaboration with UNDP and introduced the concept of establishing a Training Center aimed at preparing professionals for “green jobs.”

Bulatović asserted that considerable progress has been made in Montenegro regarding the development of the transmission network.

The statement confirmed that EPCG will persist in actively engaging in regional and international initiatives that support the green transition and sustainable advancement of the energy sector.
