A potential resolution for the water polo matches between Primorje and Croatian clubs appeared to be in sight, but a definitive message from Dubrovnik stated that Jug does not wish to host the Kotor club at a neutral venue.
Siniša Kovačević, president of Primorje, recently disclosed that an agreement was reached with Peric Bukić, president of the Regional Water Polo League and vice-president of HVS, allowing the Kotorani to compete in five matches against Croatian clubs at a neutral location in Montenegro, while Croatian representatives would also play at neutral venues within their country.
However, the Dubrovnik club is not on board with this arrangement.
“The board of VK Jug unanimously resolved during the session on September 11, 2024, that our club will not conduct home games against Kotor’s Primorje in the Regional Water Polo League at a ‘neutral’ pool, and we can only be hosts in our pool in Dubrovnik, in Gruž,” Jug announced.
The issue between Primorje and Croatian clubs emerged due to the naming of the renovated swimming pool in Kotor, now named after the renowned Kotor water polo player Zoran Džimi Gopčević.
He is being accused of war crimes related to the Morinj camp from Croatia, leading to a directive from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of that country, asserting that Croatian clubs and the national team would refrain from visiting Kotor.
