The previous season was strong, and the new one is off to a stellar start – Melsungen, the team featuring Montenegrin goalkeeper Nebojsa Simić, has kicked off the new adventures with a flawless record of four wins in four matches.
With two victories in the Bundesliga, the club from Hessen quickly ascended to the top of the standings, and with two wins against Norway’s Elverum, they secured a place in the EHF European League.
As was the case in preceding seasons, Simić was one of the standout performers, achieving a double-digit save count in each of the first three games, although Roberto García Parondo opted to rest him in the most recent match against Potsdam.
In the first encounter with Elverum before his home crowd, the “lions” goalkeeper notched up 15 saves. He continued his impressive form at the Bundesliga start against Lemga, stopping 10 of 19 opposing shots, and solidified Melzungen’s place in Europe with an additional 12 saves versus the Norwegian side.
During the match against Potsdam, Adam Moravski had his chance, and our star made two notable saves.
Looking ahead to the European League, the German club has been drawn into a group with Porto, Valur, and Vardar, and Simić is particularly excited about facing the team from Skopje.
“It’s just a few hours’ drive from my hometown of Bar to Skopje, and I hope my family can come and support me,” Simić shared, as reported by the “hna.de” portal.
Another Montenegrin talent also showcased an excellent performance in his first Bundesliga match and will be playing in the European League as well.
Miloš Vujović, the left winger from Montenegro, led Gumersbah to a victory over Hanover (32:28) with an impressive eight goals in his opening match in the world’s premier league, while he scored seven times in two games against Denmark’s Mors.
Montenegro has one more representative in the Bundesliga, with Stefan Čavor and Veclar having only played one match thus far – a loss to the strong Magdeburg, where our right back managed to score two goals.
