SC Derbi encountered yet another defeat in a game where they had multiple opportunities to secure a win.
The “Students” faced their seventh consecutive loss in Čačak against Borac (78:76), despite having a chance to claim victory during the final play of regulation time and two additional opportunities at the end of overtime.
“This marks the fourth or fifth instance where we’ve had a chance to win but couldn’t capitalize. We started the game strongly, achieving high shooting percentages from beyond the arc due to effective ball movement in our offense. The fighter, who elevated his performance in the last three rounds with a limited rotation, responded well in the second quarter and brought the team back into the game,” explained Derby coach Petar Mijović.
The dynamics of the match shifted dramatically afterward.
“Post-halftime, we struggled to adjust to a different officiating style that allowed for more physical play. Čačani capitalized on our turnovers, scoring easily. Nevertheless, we regained our momentum with solid defense and offense when we focused on specific tactics with clear spacing. We had opportunities for victory, but once again, we failed to convert in our favor,” Mijović noted.
Mijović emphasized the significance of such experiences for a young team.
“It is vital for this team to navigate these scenarios successfully. This situation mirrored our match against Split, where we also had chances to win in both regulation and overtime. I believe we deserve much more than our current standing indicates. We need to demonstrate mental resilience, and perhaps this will reward us in future games,” concluded Mijović.
