President Jakov Milatović has urged the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Odile Reno-Basso, to maintain their support for the advancement of the Montenegrin economy.

During her working visit to the United Kingdom, Milatović met with Reno-Basso to discuss investment opportunities and enhancing Montenegro’s collaboration with the global financial institution, according to an announcement from his office.

“I just concluded a fruitful meeting with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The EBRD has been a significant investor in Montenegro, contributing nearly a billion euros to boost our economy thus far. I invited the President to extend her support for Montenegro’s economic development in the near future. We also discussed the continued support from the EBRD for the Bar-Boljare highway construction, which is a crucial project for Montenegro,” Milatović noted.

He highlighted that their discussion also covered the EBRD’s support for the enactment of the Credit Guarantee Fund Law.

“This law is vital for enhancing financing options for our small enterprises. I urged the bank to assist Montenegro in better positioning itself on the investment map, so we can draw in fresh investments together, which is essential for our economy and improving the living standards of our citizens,” Milatović stated.

The EBRD President remarked that the meeting served as an excellent opportunity to discuss the bank’s initiatives in the Western Balkans, particularly in Montenegro, as reported by the President’s Office.

“We are actively investing in Montenegro and achieved record investments in the previous year. We focused on strategically significant infrastructure projects, supported the private sector, financing small and medium enterprises, and worked in the energy sector to create policies that facilitate auctions for renewable energy sources while also enhancing the business climate. It was a very engaging meeting, marking a close partnership with Montenegro,” Reno-Basso emphasized.

Milatović affirmed Montenegro’s dedication to reforms, emphasizing its progress toward becoming the first member of the European Union. He expressed gratitude to the EBRD for its contributions to the Montenegrin economy, particularly in the energy sector and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises.
