Boxer from Bratunac, Sara Ćirković, has made it to the semifinals of the World Championship in Niš, following her victory over Kazakhstan’s Zaina Šekerbekova in today’s quarterfinal match.
By reaching the semifinals, Sara Ćirković has secured a bronze medal, marking the first medal for Serbia in women’s boxing at the World Championships.
Ćirković won the match against the Kazakh opponent by unanimous decision.
“She had more experience than me, but I was able to overcome her. The match was challenging; I won by unanimous decision, but I believe my next match will be even better. It was a really tough match for me. I didn’t expect her to be this skilled, so I feel satisfied. I earned a historic medal—the very first in history, and I have to be pleased with that,” stated Ćirković.
She was among the two youngest boxers at the Paris Olympics, entering as the European champion, but unfortunately lost due to an unjust referee’s decision in her opening fight.
