On Tuesday, citizens of Montenegro voluntarily surrendered 70 firearms, 1,719 rounds of ammunition, and seven hand grenades, according to the Police Directorate’s announcement.

The weapons were turned in as part of the ongoing “Respect Life, Return Weapons” initiative, which the Police Directorate has been running for several years.

In Podgorica, Danilovgrad, and Cetinje, police received 19 weapons, including 14 pistols and five rifles, along with 235 rounds of ammunition of various types and calibers, as well as four hand grenades.

The statement further noted, “In Bar, Ulcinj, Budva, Kotor, Tivat, and Herceg Novi, 20 weapons were voluntarily returned, comprising 11 pistols and nine rifles, along with 1,168 rounds of ammunition, two hand grenades, 78 pieces of explosives, and several weapon components.”

The report continued, stating that in Bijelo Polje, Berane, Mojkovac, and Plav, 13 weapons were turned in, which included nine pistols and four rifles, 168 rounds of ammunition of various types and calibers, one hand grenade, 47 detonator caps, and several weapon parts.

Additionally, it was reported that 18 firearms were voluntarily surrendered to police in Nikšić and Pljevlja, consisting of 11 pistols and seven rifles, along with 148 rounds of ammunition and 30 detonator caps.

Since the beginning of January, the Police Directorate has reported a total of 2,904 weapons, 98,986 rounds of ammunition, 319 hand grenades, and several hundred weapon parts and explosive devices have been voluntarily surrendered.

The statement reminded citizens that possessing firearms owned by family members or relatives is considered illegal under the Weapons Act, even if inheritance proceedings are underway, until a legal heir obtains a permit.

The Police Directorate also emphasized that citizens may contact the police at 122 to arrange the return of their firearms without facing legal, criminal, or administrative consequences, regardless of the weapons’ legality.
