The clashes between Budućnost and Đer used to be thrilling encounters, often influencing the outcome of European trophies…
However, that dynamic has changed considerably over time. There is now a stark contrast in quality, goals, and financial resources between the teams. Still, Bojana Popović’s squad illustrated that with genuine effort and a bold approach, they could achieve commendable results against the reigning European champions and one of the top contenders in the Champions League.
Budućnost successfully held Đer to a draw at “Morača,” earning their first point in this elite season, ending in a 23:23 tie.
The climax of the match took place in an eerily empty arena, with just 500 fans in attendance, during the final two minutes.
After Tanja Ivanovic was sent off, the Hungarians found themselves with a numerical advantage until the game’s conclusion, but they wasted two crucial attacks—first, goalie Sakura Hauge made a critical save, and on the final attempt, the play was called for a breakthrough.
The score remained 23:23, allowing Budućnost to snap a 15-match losing streak against Đer, with their last victory dating back to February 2016.
In this match, Hauge shone with 16 saves in goal, while Jelena Radivojević led the scoring with seven goals. Ivana Godeč contributed with six, and Nina Bulatović added four.
Looking ahead, Budućnost will face Bitigheim in a week, a team that has recorded one victory in their first four matches, defeating Rapid in Bucharest 37:29.
